How does a CBSE graduation prepare my child for further education overseas?

Most schools affiliate to either the CBSE or ICSE board as both are all- India boards (with the Head Office in New Delhi) and their public examinations are considered a benchmark all over the country. The standard is higher particularly in English, and the level of Mathematics is on par with that of IGCSE International graduate degree (Britain). In terms of preparation for education overseas, CBSE is much better than any of the State Boards.

What system of assessment does the school follow?

The system of assessment will be both continuous and comprehensive and will be so designed as to take into account, the different aptitudes and abilities of the child. Marks are not given to children in the primary grades (classes 1 - to 4); instead, they are assigned grades marked with qualitative comments on their performance. From the 5th grade onwards, students get marked for their examinations.

What is the difference (advantage) of an ICSE syllabus vis-à-vis CBSE?

An important difference between CBSE and CISCE (more popularly known as the ICSE ) is that CBSE prescribes syllabi for all classes, from grade 1 onwards, whereas the ICSE syllabus prescribes syllabi only for grades 9 and 10 (and its continuation, ISC, prescribes syllabi for grades 11 and 12). ICSE therefore thus gives a lot more freedom to its schools enrolled under it to adapt the curriculum and the teaching methodology for the benefit of the students. ISR has integrated the ICSE curriculum with the inputs from international curriculum and assessment techniques giving the ISR curriculum an international flavour.

What if my child is not a self-directed learner?

Our teaching methodology addresses all types of learners – the average, above-average and below-average. Children are given tasks and assignments based on their learning capacity. Children who are not self-directed in their learning, are placed in remedial programmes to help them cope and learn better. We also have special Language and Math Labs to ensure that children learn through practical experience, which helps them retain the information and forms a strong foundation.

How are parents involved in the educational process?

Parents are sent printed reports and updates of their child's progress in school at the end of the first term and again at the end of the academic year, via e-mail, app letters and reports. The reports are based on inputs from teachers who interact with the child in the classrooms and dormitory on a regular basis. They reflect the performance of the student over the course of the term, and give a clear picture of his or her progress. The reports are meant to be descriptive and constructive rather than judgmental.
